Student-run reporting

Students have a lot to say. Students deserve a voice at the table, and writing is a way to make sure that students’ voices are heard. The Cottonwood Times is committed to making sure that students are at the forefront of reporting, news-writing and opinion-writing. Students are the future of our world, and they must be treated as such.

Charlie Yale

Hi! I’m Charlie. I’m the founder of the Cottonwood Times and a junior at Central High School in Omaha, NE. I created the Cottonwood Times because I saw the reach and impact that youth-led news could have at a very local level, and wanted to reciprocate that effect on a larger stage. I enjoy the outdoors, reading, and annoying people with how much I talk. Contact me with any questions!

Jane McGill

My name is Jane McGill and I am the arts editor at the Cottonwood Times and a rising junior at Omaha Central High School. The mass arts of the 21st century wield tremendous influence over how young people see and understand the world around them. In my work for the Cottonwood Times, I aspire to lend a critical student voice to the most popular works of art being made today. I write primarily about movies, but you can expect the occasional book or tv review as well.

Zachary Clifton

Hi! I’m Zachary. I’m the business editor of the Cottonwood times and a rising junior at the Gatton Academy of Mathematics and Science in Bowling Green, KY. I joined the Cottonwood Times because I felt as though students needed a direct source to business news. In years past, business has been inaccessible to students -- my goal is to change that. I am on the KY YMCA Youth Association board of directors and recently accepted a position as a consultant at Search for Common Ground.

Hello! My name is Levi Schiff and I'm currently a junior in high school living near the Rocky Mountains in Colorado. I greatly enjoy the arts, content reviews and analyses, and politics. Providing youth a space to be heard is incredibly important now more than ever, and any opportunity that I can take to help others have a voice is something that I will always pursue. I hope to bring forth an understanding of how the arts influence our politics and the entirety of the modern world, and maybe even inspire readers to dive more deeply into the media that they consume, sparking political participation (especially in those who are younger).
